A new version of the Csound FLOSS Manual has been developed by Joachim Heintz and collaborators, now hosted externally at https://flossmanual.csound.com/. This version uses a different workflow, combining Markdown, Git version control, and interactive examples that run directly in the browser.
Csound itself is a powerful open source system for sound design and music composition, widely used for synthesis, algorithmic composition, and audio research. One of the strengths of the new manual is that many examples can now be run directly in the browser, making it easier to explore and learn through experimentation.
The manual builds on the original FLOSS Manuals work while extending it into new formats and possibilities. It remains closely connected to its origins, even as it moves beyond the original platform. Many thanks to Joachim Heintz, Hlöðver Sigurðsson, and everyone involved for their work on this.
This also points towards a broader direction for FLOSS Manuals. Rather than focusing solely on hosting manuals within a single system, there is an opportunity to support a more distributed model, where projects develop in ways that suit them, while still remaining part of a shared network. This opens up space for greater autonomy, new workflows, and future collaborations, while continuing to recognise and build on the existing body of work.
